Fresh leaks from reliable DJI watcher Igor Bogdanov have provided our first detailed look at DJI’s upcoming Flip drone, suggesting an innovative compact folding design paired with advanced AI capabilities and comprehensive safety features. The new images reveal a sub-250g aircraft that appears positioned to bridge the gap between DJI’s entry-level offerings and their more advanced Mini series drones.

Advanced Features in a Compact Package
The leaked photos showcase the DJI Flip’s sophisticated obstacle avoidance system, which reportedly incorporates LiDAR sensors for enhanced safety. This technology, typically reserved for DJI’s higher-end models, such as the DJI Air 3S, suggests the manufacturer is bringing premium features to a more accessible price point. The drone also appears to feature full-surface propeller protection, addressing safety concerns for both new and experienced pilots.
Perhaps most notably, the images reveal an extensive array of automated flight modes accessible directly from the aircraft itself. The interface displays DJI’s signature QuickShots features, including Dronie, Rocket, Circle, Helix, Boomerang, and Spotlight modes. These autonomous flight patterns, combined with the drone’s AI tracking capabilities, indicate DJI’s focus on creating content-creator friendly features while maintaining ease of use.

Technical Specifications and Performance
According to the leaked information, the DJI Flip will feature a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor capable of recording 4K/60FPS HDR video. The drone’s reported 3,110 mAh battery should provide approximately 31 minutes of flight time per charge – impressive figures for an aircraft in the sub-250g category.
The DJI Flip can be bought with ND Filters, indicating that the camera will be able to deliver cinematic aerial footage. The photo seems to show ND16, ND64, ND256 filters.
The Flip is expected to utilize DJI’s OcuSync 4.0 (O4) transmission system, ensuring compatibility with the company’s latest controllers while potentially offering improved range and signal stability compared to previous generations.

Market Positioning and Availability
Industry sources suggest the DJI Flip will be available in three configurations:
- Base drone unit: $460
- RC 2 controller bundle: $670
- Fly More Combo: $800
The drone’s anticipated mid-January 2025 release timing coincides with CES 2025 in Las Vegas, suggesting a possible public unveiling at the technology industry’s premier annual event.

Looking Beyond the Leaks
While these leaks provide compelling details about the DJI Flip, some questions remain about its exact capabilities and market positioning. The combination of advanced features like LiDAR and AI tracking in a sub-250g platform would represent a significant technical achievement, potentially setting new expectations for what’s possible in this weight class.
The drone’s competitive pricing strategy, particularly in the base configuration, could present an interesting challenge to both established manufacturers and newcomers in the compact drone segment. However, the true value proposition will depend on how well these features perform in real-world conditions.
As with any pre-release information, specifications and pricing details should be considered preliminary until officially confirmed by DJI. The Drone Industry has seen similar leaks in the past that proved mostly accurate, but final product details often include refinements or changes from early information.
