NDAA Update: Key Developments

The much-anticipated NDAA language has been released. While there is no immediate ban on DJI or Autel drones, there’s concerning language included.

What’s in the NDAA?

Within one year of the NDAA passing, an appropriate national security agency must investigate to determine whether DJI and/or Autel drones pose a risk to U.S. national security. Here’s what happens next:

If the investigation is not completed within a year, or if DJI and Autel drones are deemed a risk, the drones will be added to the FCC Covered List.

Inclusion on the FCC list means new DJI and Autel models would be prohibited from entering the U.S. market.

The agencies involved include:

Concerns and Deadlines

If these agencies fail to act or “drag their feet” over the next year, DJI and Autel drones could be automatically banned, regardless of evidence. Many find this lack of definitive proof troubling, especially given years of claims about national security concerns.

The NDAA has passed the House as of this recording (Thursday) and awaits Senate approval. We’ll pin updates in the comments if changes occur.

Agri Spray and EAVision Launch the J100 Spray Drone

Agri Spray and EAVision have released a heavy-lift drone, the Hercules Pro (also known as the J100 Spray Drone).

Key Specs:

  • Payload: 220 pounds (100 kg) of spray capacity
  • Flight Time:
  • • 6 minutes with full payload
  • • 14 minutes without payload

While a 6-minute flight time may sound short, it aligns with performance seen in other heavy-lift drones. We’ll share more details and pictures as they become available.

DJI Mini 5 Leaks Surface

There’s exciting news for DJI enthusiasts. The Mini 5 is rumored to be in development, with a possible release in summer 2025.

Key Rumors:

  • A leaked image shows a Mini-style drone with a forward-facing LiDAR sensor, a trend seen in other recent models like the A3S.
  • Despite new features, the Mini 5 is expected to remain under the 250-gram weight limit, keeping it compliant with key drone regulations.

These leaks were shared by OsitaLV (a known DJI leaker) and reposted by Jasper Ellens, both with solid track records. No camera specs, flight times, or additional details are confirmed yet, but we’ll keep you updated.
